Doing some gaming…
So yeah, still not feeling so great about the last few days. I’ve been mostly keeping to the war room so I don’t need to deal with people, and luckily Spazzle set up some kind of special connection for me (“why fly”? or something like that) so I can still use the internet in here without having to come out. This way I can still have some more time to myself but still have a little contact with the outside world. Just…safe contact. Like without having to be the Warchief and shit, I can just be Garrosh, without people even knowing it’s Garrosh.
I’ve mostly been playing Earth Online some more. For anyone who was wondering, I decided to go with the veterinarian character. For now, anyway. I’ll probably roll a couple other characters just to try things out. Maybe the mechanic I was talking about before, or an accountant or teacher or something. Plus if I make a new character, it won’t be so easy for Spazzle to find me online…he keeps popping on and sending me these little comments about how much time I seem to be spending on the game, and how I should maybe be getting back to my normal routine, and whatever. Maybe a quick post here will get him off my back.
So I think I mentioned before how they really went all out to work up the backstory for the game world, and have things going on with the NPCs to really give it this living feel like…well, like you’re really in a WORLD. Right now they’ve got all these little world events and mini-quests going on for some big event in the next patch where there’s going to be a new faction leader chosen. Well, maybe. It could end up being the same guy. But there’s also these other mini-bosses who’ve been vying for the chance to take him on. Not sure if it’s going to be some kind of ritual combat like a mak’gora or something, or what. As it stands, the faction leader they have now is still pretty new. Apparently the last guy was some stupid, war-mongering idiot who stumbled around mangling words and starting fights all over the place. Now there’s this new guy who’s all serious and hates conflict and takes himself way too seriously and has this HUGE messianic complex like he’s some kind of savior. Fuck, can you imagine having a run of back-to-back faction leaders like that? Good thing it’s just a fucking game.
Anyway…I’m going to go log on again for a little bit. I’ll try to get back to my regular posts. Keep the questions coming for next week’s mailbag and I’ll try to answer as many as I can next time around!
Hey, Garrosh, what “state” do you play on for Earth Online? I’m on the Maryland state myself and I play the Musician class (specced Vocalist). If you’re on the same state look me up, you can usually find me hanging out in the Washington capital city running circles around the National Mall while I chat with guildies.
Oh hey, if you’re in Washington, do you know where the big duel for faction leader is going to go down? Like to they have a Ring of Valor or something? I might have to make sure I’m online for that. Still not sure how the fight is supposed to work, though.
Right now my character is in…um, it’s something with an M. And it’s long and stupid-sounding. (I mean would it have killed them to come up with names of places that sound like they could actually exist?) Not your M place, though. I think it’s further north.
Last time the faction leader changed there was no duel at all. Just the former leader saying, “Oh, ok, I guess I’m not the leader anymore,” and the new leader stood up and gave a long speech, and then other NPCs gave long speeches, and then all the millions of random NPCs watching started to cry and cheer and stuff. It was really boring. I’m hoping it will be more interesting this time, but the patch notes don’t mention any changes. If you want to see it though, it’ll probably take place on the National Mall again.
I think the old leader still exists in game. I’ve never seen him, but I hear he appears in random places and gives more speeches, (seriously, there’s a LOT of fucking speeches in this game), and if you see him you’re supposed to give him gold for charities and fundraisers and stuff to increase your reputation with his faction.
Welcome to Earth Online, Mr. Warchief. I’ve been playing this game for a while now – you can see my character’s avatar on my post, if you squint. I went with the “computer programmer” class – they’re the ones who do engineering-type stuff in the game’s version of the internet. These big Tauren mitts would be pretty bad at that in real life. My avatar lives in the Indiana zone, which looks quite a bit like Westfall except without the coast.
As khizzara said, a great deal of the political power in this game revolves around speeches and marketing, not physical or battle prowess. It definitely takes some getting used to. Oh, and “lawyers”, apparently. I’m not sure if that’s a playable class or not, but it seems like they’re the ones who make most of the decisions about what you can or can’t do.
Also, the past leaders still hang around and interfere with stuff from time to time. Kind of like Thrall, actually. There have been a few who apparently got perma-banned, but it’s been a while.
I wonder if Varian has ever played Earth Online? Wonder what class he’d choose? Scratch that – he probably stands around some public area, yelling at other players and showing off his “cars” (what they call mounts in-game).
I think I read they were going to introduce lawyers as a “hero class” in the next expansion. From what I’ve heard, it sounds like they’re going to be pretty OP, with one of those annoying get-out-of-jail-free cards for anything you throw at them. Like for instance, I guess there’s supposed to be a Restraining Order spell that’s worse than a pally bubble.
