Four Years of Musings and a New Place to Muse
Hello and welcome to the new home of the Warchief’s Command Board! I’m excited to kick things off again with a new, improved (I hope!) look for the blog, along with a few new bells and whistles!
While redesigning, I’ve tried to incorporate a few more easy-to-find links and blurbs to help people catch up and get (re-)oriented to what I know can be some fairly daunting continuity — see the first handful of inquisitive links under the blog header. (Also, coming soon to the “When Is This?” page: a running timeline of blog events with links to key posts!)
The new site also includes a number of forums, open to everyone to use for discussions of all sorts. One of the things I’ve most enjoyed about the blog is the way it’s built up its own community, evidenced perhaps most clearly when we were holding our semi-regular meta raids in Siege of Orgrimmar last year. I’d like to encourage that sense of community and interaction, and I hope these forums can help be part of that. Everyone is welcome to read; posting requires registration with the site, but once you’re registered, you can also choose to use that login as your username for blog comments as well.
I’m still in the process of tinkering with the new site, so there will probably be more tweaks here and there over the next few weeks as we go through a bit of a shakedown period. While that’s going on, please do poke around, test things out, and let me know if you run into any problems or if anything just plain doesn’t look right. (And, you know, if anyone out there happens to be a CSS coding guru, I might have a favor or two to ask!)
While you’re looking around, I’ll also encourage you to spread a little rating / “like” love around some of your favorite posts; likes and ratings from the old WordPress site didn’t carry over to this new one, so there’s a fresh slate here in terms of reader feedback. This isn’t completely an ego-driven request, either (Okay, okay, it’s partially ego-driven! But not completely!) — one of the extra gizmos that I haven’t yet activated will let me add a small menu to one of the sidebars that links to top-rated posts, so this could be a way for everyone to draw attention to some of their favorites! (Please make sure you’re rating posts on this domain, though; one of the things I’m still working on is updating in-text links to link only to these pages, not to the old blog.)
Oh, and speaking of liking things… you can now give thumbs-ups (and thumbs-downs, but those aren’t as fun to think of) to readers’ comments!
The old blog on the WordPress site will remain intact indefinitely, but all new content will be happening here. Anyone who was subscribed to the old site will be migrated over automatically shortly after this page goes live, but just to be safe, I’d encourage you to check back periodically just to be sure. If it looks like you’re not getting notifications as you had in the past, please let me know.
With all that said, let me shut up and let everyone have some fun looking around and taking the new digs for a test drive (but leave the metaphor mixing to me)! As always, thanks to everyone for visiting, reading, commenting, and making the WCB such a fun ride.

TWO YEARS OF THOUGHTS AND MUSINGS
Yeah, yeah, I know the blog’s been kind of quiet lately. Lots of stuff going on, so my schedule’s been a little too packed with round-the-clock BEING AWESOME to have as much time for blogging as I might like. Plus, where we left things, there’s still a story to finish that’s probably better told visually, and of course – timing being everything – Gurtash is having a flare-up from a hand injury, so that’s cut his doodle output WAY down. And yes, I know what you’re thinking, fourteen-year-old boy hurts his hand, huh? But no, this is pretty legit. See, he was— you know what, screw it, you’ll see for yourselves soon enough.
Anyhow. I wanted to break the silence today in order to recognize a milestone – the two-year anniversary of YOUR WARCHIEF’S COMMAND BOARD. The blog, I mean. The command boards around town have been up for, like, I don’t know, longer. But who cares about those, really, other than noobs. And people looking for guitar lessons, seeing as how half the time most of the boards are just covered with those ads with the little rip-off contact addresses. BUT I DIGRESS.
Point is, it was two years ago today that I made my first-ever blog post, and began to forever change the lives of YOU, MY LOYAL READERS AND MINIONS.
So, in light of the occasion today, and the big-fucking-deal it commemorates, I think we all know what this calls for. Yep, you guessed it, it’s time for all of you out there in Blog-Reading-Ville (no, Dontrag, that’s not a real place) to SEND YOUR WARCHIEF A PRESENT TO SHOW YOUR DAMN APPRECIATION. What, you think this thing doesn’t take time and effort? FUCK THAT. Don’t panic TOO much, though – I know I’m just springing this on you, so I won’t go sending the Kor’kron after any gift-deficient slackers until at least, like, Friday.
Hell, one of your peers has already gone ahead and beaten you to the punch. Check out what yours truly received in the mail just today as a blogiversary gift.
HOW’S THAT FOR FUCKING AWESOME, HUH? My very own badass action figure of my very own badass self! And let me tell you, they did NOT scrimp on the plastic on this thing. It seriously weighs like five pounds.

Still, they’re pretty cool. Maybe I should check with Spazzle about putting out an actual line of Command Board action figures. You can’t tell me THOSE wouldn’t fly off the shelves like hotcakes. If hotcakes were kept on shelves. But still. MERCHANDISING, BITCHES.

Coming Soon: Live Blogiversarying (Yes, That’s a Word, Dammit)
Hi again, everyone. This is Averry, breaking character to make a quick announcement.
The one other time I’d stepped out from behind the Garrosh façade, I’d said I wouldn’t be doing it again, and I labored for a while trying to come up with an in-character way to make this announcement. Then my inner Garrosh kicked in and I said, “Eh, fuck it.” It’s just easier to do it this way, so here I am again.
As some of you long-time readers may realize, we’re coming up on the one-year anniversary of the Warchief’s Command Board. Garrosh made his inaugural post on August 28, 2011. (You better believe I just shamelessly linked back to it! Hey, if you’re a new reader, consider that your invitation to hop into the Way-Back Machine and get all caught up. And if you’ve been reading from the start…well…go back and read it all again! I bet it rewards multiple readings. You know, kind of like a Faulkner novel. Only nowhere near as good. Like even remotely.)
I wanted to do something to commemorate the blogiversary, and an idea finally came to me, courtesy of some serendipitous timing. As it happens, August 28 also marks the release date of Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War, Christie Golden’s new WoW novel that sets the stage for Mists of Pandaria.
So here’s my hair-brained scheme. Next Tuesday, August 28, I’m going to be running out in the morning to pick up the novel. Then I’ll be spending the day reading. And then, that night, I’ll be LIVE BLOGGING a new installment of the Command Board that will tie into the events of the novel somehow. I’ve live blogged here once before, and this will work basically the same way: I’ll post an initial setup, then update every few minutes so that the story “unfolds” before your very eyes as you refresh the page.
What will the live-blogging episode be about? How will it tie into the book? I have no idea! I won’t know that until I actually read the book, so I won’t even be in a position to start putting any ideas together until that day. All I know is that I’ll be writing something that night, and it’ll have something to do with the events of Tides of War. Obviously, this is a bit of a gamble, and there’s a more-than-trivial chance that I’ll wind up embarrassing myself. But really, isn’t the chance to watch Averry make himself look like a jackass one of those little pleasures that makes life worth living?
